Effective Communication For Employers:
Part One
How many discussions have gone exactly the way you wanted them to in the last month?
When we communicate with people the way we like to be communicated with, we sometimes miss the mark.
To connect effectively, you should adapt your communication style to suit the person you are speaking with. This is also true for interacting with your staff in order to influence win-win outcomes.
Welcome to part one of our seven-part series, where I’ll introduce you to different personas with traits that you’ll find familiar within your own team and give you some hints on how you can tailor your communication to increase your chances of a win-win outcome with them.
So let’s meet Theresa Thompson, who could statistically represent about 25% of your staff.
Theresa is reliable and has great time management and organisational skills. She is detail oriented and is great at explaining complex ideas in a clear and simple way. These traits make her a natural leader in group situations. However, when things get a bit tough, she has a tendency to spread herself too thin by taking on all the work and thinking that she can do it faster and better than her colleagues. You might also see her over-explaining herself by going into every little detail and attacking others for not thinking clearly.
Do you have any team members like Theresa Thompson?
Is communicating effectively with them challenging you?
