How many of your team meetings or conversations with employees have gone exactly the way you wanted them to in the last month?
By default, we generally communicate with people the way we like to be communicated with. Guess what! Not everyone is like us and sometimes we miss the mark.
To connect effectively, you should adapt your communication style to suit the person you are speaking with. This is also true for interacting with your staff in order to influence win-win outcomes.
In the second edition of Effective Communication for Employers, I’ll introduce you to a new persona with traits that you’ll find familiar within your own team and give you some hints on how you can tailor your communication to increase your chances of a win-win outcome with them.
Last month, we met Theresa Thompson, who statistically represents about 25% of your team. You can find out more about communicating more effectively with her personality here.
Next, we’ll meet Helena Hazwal, who may represent approximately 30% of your team.
Helena is sociable and has a genuine interest in people. She is great at building relationships and remembering personal details. In a professional environment, she is the one who cares about the wellbeing of her team-mates and clients. She is always ready to help and proactively approaches others to make them feel welcome.
People like Helena are incredible hosts and have the potential to have an enormous positive impact on the culture in your business.
When Helena is not feeling happy and a liked and welcomed member of the team, you might see her trying to overly please everyone, and making uncharacteristic mistakes.
Do you have any team members like Helena Hazwal?
Is communicating effectively with them challenging you?
